{Daryl acknowledges her for only a moment.} I ain’t here to run any of your favors {he reminds her, tone straightforward and non-negotiable}, so ‘less it’s somethin’ ‘portant, I don’t see what this visit’s about.
Rick turned his head, looking straight in front of him at the group working at the days tasks. “I wanted ta be out there more than I was, I did. But God knows I could barely walk two feet without collapsin’.” He rubbed the stubble on his chin, turning back to the man next to him. “You wanna come huntin’ with me today? Scan the area for walkers at the same time?” Rick asked changing the subject.
Looking over the former sheriff, Daryl had to bite down on his tongue. Rick had a point, that he knew, and while he had all the energy in him to start a spit-fire, he was in no mood to initiate it. “Whatever,” he says bitterly, his sour response the only way out of it. “If you’re too hurt to even make single move, why the hell even bother? Looks to me like you’re a lot more useful to the others at the farm than out there with me.”
“Just wanted to check yer okay. You spent a lot o’ time out there searchin’ fer Sophia.” Rick looked at the ground just past Daryl’s head, not eyeing him directly.
“Why the hell wouldn’t I be okay?” he asks seriously, the eye-contact Rick had been hesitant to establish quickly secured by Daryl himself. “‘sides, ain’t like any of you guys are gettin’ up to do anythin’.”
